2016 was another busy and diverse year for music making.
The year began with the completion of the hugely popular series 3 of The Musketeers, which was recorded in Prague and London, followed by the release of the soundtrack album featuring Paul’s scores form series 2&3.
A String Quartet followed, for members of the London Session Orchestra, which took the form of harmonic studies before work began on a new Ballet, for the National Ballet of Canada.
Pinocchio, a full length, two act ballet, was written over four months leading up to the summer. In July, Paul and choreographer Will Tuckett, along with the creative team spent 2 weeks with the ballet company introducing the work, and finalising the casting.
Before orchestration began, Paul composed the music for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s groundbreaking The Tempest, which opened in November to rave reviews.
Paul then composed a thrilling and atmospheric score to the BBC’s Boxing day treat, the 2 part The Witness for the Prosecution, which garnered critical praise and was a hit with viewers. Then followed a 3 part comedy drama for the BBC, Evelyn Waugh’s Decline and Fall, for which Paul wrote an orchestral score full of verve and romance.
Orchestrations now complete for Pinocchio, the premiere in Toronto will be 11th March 2017, before a tour. The Tempest transfers to London’s Barbican Theatre in June. Decline and Fall will be on your screens soon.
